Local Wal-Mart Distribution Center named best in US for sixth time in seven years

Bedford, PA, June 2009 -  For the sixth time in seven years the Bedford County Wal-Mart Distribution Center 6047 was named the top facility of its kind in the company’s supply chain system.  Tom Burchfield, manager of 6047, attributes DC 6047’s success to its dedicated, hard-working employees. 

To honor the men and women who make DC 6047 the shining star it is, the Bedford County Development Association presented it with a Certificate of Achievement.

Burchfield noted, “This workforce is unique.  Lots of other distribution centers are doing the same things we are, but they don’t have the workforce we have here.  We have such a flexible, dedicated workforce.”

 · The building encompasses 800,000 square feet 

· 58 percent of the space is used for dry goods, 42 percent for percent for perishable (frozen, dairy produce)

· Open every day of the year except Christmas

· Employs nearly 700 people
