Representatives of 38 companies and 11 government agencies from throughout the United States came to the Letterkenny Army Depot to attend the Letterkenny Business Opportunity Showcase.

The Bedford County Development Association was on hand to help develop relationships and partnerships between Bedford County companies and national organizations, including the Letterkenny Depot itself.

The Letterkenny event, which is sponsored by Congressman Bill Shuster, is fast becoming an important opportunity to bring together potential clients and customers with company representatives.

Congressman Shuster said that the nation needs to coordinated effort to combact terrorism and that the Letterkenny Showcase was a good place to start. "We need new technology and this is where Letterkenny and its partners come into play."

"The synergies that we were able to foster are going to be significant for our local companies," stated Terri Brumbaugh, BCDA vice president. Brumbaugh attended the event with representatives of four Bedford County groups including: MDL Manufacturing; Mission Critical Solutions; Morton Metalcraft; and TS Technology Inc.

A number of nearby and Bedford County-related groups sponsored booths as well. These included: Mountain Research, Concurrent Technologies Corporation, Momentum, RamTech, Penn State, Pennsylvania State government, Tiburon, BAE, Lockheed Martin, NCDMM, and SEDA-COG.

"The showcase was very successful for our Bedord County companies," said Brumbaugh. "They were able to have fact-to-face meetings with Congressman Shuster as well as individuals from important defense contractors. And they were the companies we were targeting."

Partnerships have been developed through attendance at this event, and several workshops helped establish a clear picture of how a company can position itself to win contracts with Letterkenny Depot. The keynote speaker at the event was Michael Durant, retired Army officer and author of the New York Times bestselling book "in the Company of Heroes."
