When Stacey Sigler graduated from Bedford High School a decade ago she almost immediately left town. She and her boyfriend - now her husband - traveled to Missouri to start a new life in what they thought would be greener pastures. A year later they returned home - back to Bedford where they had friends and family. She came back and took classes at Allegany College of Maryland in Everett and began her career - working behind the counter at Sheetz. Over the past seven years she has moved up the ranks - first as an assistant manager at the Bedford Mile Level store, then as the manager of the Everett store and then back to Bedford a year ago as manager.

“I love this job - there’s something new everyday; I’m never doing the same thing. Plus I get to see so many people that it’s a lot of fun.” As manager, Stacey is immersed in paperwork, hiring and overseeing the store’s two-dozen employees, overseeing training, ordering stock and working behind the counter waiting on customers. In addition, she oversees testing for employees in the district who hope to move into supervisory positions.

Through her years with the company, Stacey said she has spent hundreds of hours in company-sponsored trainings. “It’s ongoing and comprehensive. If you have good basic skills - particularly in computers and math - like working with people and are truly dedicated to the job, there’s a lot of room for advancement in this company.”

Stacey said she sometimes surprises friends when they learn she works at Sheetz. “They think that working at a convenience store is a dead-end job. But this is much more than just a gas station or convenience store - we’re a gas station, bakery, prepare food and operate a convenience store. “It’s a pretty complicated operation and requires us to stay on top of things to keep things running efficiently. It’s a rewarding career - one that I wouldn’t trade for any other.”
