Phil Lewis - Pre-Press and Warehouse Manager
Technological advances that have come to the paper recently have fallen in Lewis' bailiwick. Lewis is helping to coordinate the 200 year-old newspaper's move from conventional paste-up - where pages are produced in the composition shop, negatives of those pages shot on a large camera, and metal plates made from the negatives - to a computerized process that will bypass paste-up and go directly to computer-generated negatives. He's also overseeing an upcoming expansion of the newspaper's warehouse that will allow it to house more newsprint anisette and add more press capacity." Lewis moved into the business after learning printing basics at California University of Pennsylvania - starting work at the Gazette about 10 years ago. "I knew I wanted to stay in the county" he says. "I've traveled all over and there's no better place in the country than Bedford County - it's an especially good place to raise children. Plus staying here allows me to do what I love best - hunt, fish and farm - as well as work. What more could I want?" Back to Opportunities |
