To improve the quality of life in Bedford County through economic development while preserving our heritage and natural resources.
The Bedford County Development Association is the first stop for any business person considering expanding or locating in Bedford County. In the past few years, the staff, with the assistance of federal and state legislators, has secured more than $30 million in grants or loans for projects that have provided employment for thousands of workers in the county.
According to BCDA’s bylaws, the organization’s primary purposes are to:
- Promote and encourage industry and commercial development of trade in the county.
Aid, assist, encourage and promote the location of industrial and commercial employers in the county.
- Promote and encourage the growth of industry and existing employers located in the county.
- Coordinate and organize the efforts of other organizations in aiding and assisting in carrying out the purpose of this corporation.
The association works closely with local economic development groups within the county and with county wide groups such as the Bedford County Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority, the Bedford County Redevelopment Authority, the Bedford County Air Industrial Park Authority and the Bedford County Chamber of Commerce. The association also works closely with county government; the county’s three commissioners sit on the BCDA board as ex-officio members, as does President and CEO, Bette Slayton.
