Bedford County is home to some of Pennsylvania’s most scenic landscapes and thriving outdoor recreation opportunities. The Bedford County Development Association (BCDA) is seeking an Outdoor Recreation Coordinator to help lead this growing sector. This new role will connect partners, strengthen local trails and recreation assets, and champion initiatives that enhance both our economy and quality of life.
Position Overview
The Bedford County Development Association (BCDA) is looking for a dynamic, highly motivated individual with a passion for the outdoors to lead and enhance Bedford County’s outdoor recreation economy.
The new Bedford County Outdoor Recreation Coordinator will advance the organization’s Community Development and Outdoor Recreation goals. This role involves collaborating with county, regional, and state partners, as well as local outdoor recreation stakeholders.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
The Bedford County Outdoor Recreation Coordinator will be responsible for leading and coordinating the following activities:
- Work collaboratively with the BCDA staff to communicate and implement the strategic priorities of the County’s Community Development and Outdoor Recreation agenda, including providing recommendations for appropriate actions.
- Provide technical assistance to the multiple trail organizations located throughout Bedford County.
- Identity and maintain information on applicable funding opportunities to support outdoor recreation assets and economic development.
- Administer projects by preparing correspondence, memoranda, and proposals; manage expenses and income; assist in preparing contracts, invoices, and grant reports to funders and partners; create databases for projects; and maintain project files.
- Lead meetings and workshops with stakeholders, including local government and non-government agencies; businesses; community organizations; elected and appointed officials and their program staff; and the public at-large as directed.
- May perform other duties as requested by the BCDA staff.
In addition to the above essential duties, the Outdoor Recreation Coordinator position may be required to work a varied schedule that may include participating in in-person events occurring on weekends, holidays, and evenings.
QUALIFICATIONS
Prospective candidates for the Bedford County Outdoor Recreation Coordinator position will be required to meet the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in community planning, recreation, natural resource management, or a relevant field is preferred, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Data analytics and management is a key skill set.
- Ability to accurately record and maintain records.
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work under stress and handle stressful situations.
